"…..The Head Start program is looming as a particular source of pressure for governors and their states. There are thousands of Head Start grants, typically starting at the beginning of the month, meaning that on Nov. 1, more programs around the country are going to run out of money.
Yasmina S. Vinci, executive director of the National Head Start Association, said 19,000 children from low-income families had lost or were at risk of losing services in 11 states because of the shutdown.
In the weeks ahead, states will have to decide whether they want to step in for programs like Women, Infants and Children, known as WIC, which provides nutrition services for children. Officials said the federal money in the pipeline for that program would last about two weeks; the State of Washington posted a notice on Tuesday saying it had enough money for just nine more days of assistance.
“We have enough resources to get to the middle of October, and after that, it’s anybody’s guess what happens,” T. Eloise Foster, secretary of budget and management for the State of Maryland, said of the nutrition program.” - NYTIMES
Innocuous fools have often enjoyed special privileges in cultural and economic groups, whereas aggressive madmen had to been restrained or incarcerated. A fool’s powerlessness and helplessness may gain them protection of more fortunate people. Since the fool is only guided by their natural instincts, because they do not understand social conventions, they are not culpable for breaches of those rules. The fool is not expected to “know better” or “know” anything.
Because of this, the fool has often been given great relative freedom, particularly in speech. The advantage of speaking with exemption from punishment has made the fool attractive in the literary imagination, for example, the fool in Shakespeare's King Lear. Lear’s fool is one of only three people in the play who consistently speak to him wisely, and the other two, Cordelia and the Earl of Kent, are punished severely.
Though the fool is in a position separated from normal society which can cause them to be subjected to deriding acts and contemptuous treatment, it has also at times caused them to be regarded with respect and reverence — the holy fool. In the Middle Ages, and in some primitive societies, the fool was thought to be under the protection of God and possessing “Godly imparted tongues”

Existentialist feminists emphasize concepts such as freedom, interpersonal relationships, and the experience of living as a human body. They value the capacity for radical change, but recognize that factors such as self-deception and the anxiety caused by the possibility of change can limit it. Many are dedicated to exposing and undermining socially imposed gender roles and cultural constructs limiting women’s self-determination, and criticize poststructualist third-wave feminists who deny the intrinsic freedom of individual women. A female who makes considered choices regarding her way of life and suffers the anxiety associated with that freedom, isolation, or nonconformity, yet remains free, demonstrates the tenets of existentialism.
The proposition that existence precedes essence (French: l’existence précède l’essence) is a central claim of existentialism, which reverses the traditional philosophical view that the essence or nature of a thing is more fundamental and immutable than its existence. To existentialists, human beings—through their consciousness—create their own values and determine a meaning for their life because, in the beginning, the human being does not possess any inherent identity or value. By posing the acts that constitute him or her, he or she makes his or her existence more significant.

In response to those confused/upset by my Michael Vic tweet:
We (humans) have already established ourselves as head of the animal kingdom. We systematically slaughter millions of cows, chickens, pigs, sheep, rabbits etc., for food, clothing and whatever else our hearts may desire… What’s the difference between a dog and a pig?? NONE.
It is in traditional American culture to go into the woods and hunt bears, deer, wolves etc, FOR SPORT AND RECREATION… What is the difference between that and fighting dogs for entertainment? NONE.
We do with the other animals in the food chain as we please, and not ONE (other than HUMAN) should be specially protected by ANY sort of laws if we are not going to extend those same rights to ALL ANIMALS BELOW US IN THE KINGDOM.
Now in regards to this Zimmerman verdict, It is SICK to think that some innocent HUMAN life was taken and the man who committed the crime gets to walk away freely, while people are actually JAILED for “crimes” against animals.
It is sick to think that tax “crimes” can carry heavier sentences than violent crimes. currency is imaginary. Money doesn’t actually exist… It’s just some made-up way for people to define their “worth” and status among the rest of society.
Don’t forget.. WE ARE STILL PART OF THE ANIMAL KINGDOM. Things we should be able to do naturally and freely as our type of animal (like eat, drink water, and clothe ourselves) are interrupted and made exclusive by way of MONEY….
money and taxes you and i pay that are ALSO probably going to afford Zimmerman a comfortable new existence as a part of some sort of protection program.
I’m sure this is really hard to follow as there are probably tons of grammatical errors and run-on sentences but something’s got to Change. How many “cops” and the like are going to be able to abuse their “power” like this??? Sean Bell, Amadou Diallo, Trayvon Martin…..
Furthermore, (and I may be wrong) I never hear about some little white kid /white man getting “accidentally” murdered by the police…. It all just seems to be some sort of conspiracy. These highly publicized black man/white cop murder trials always seem to end in the white cop being freed With little to no regards to the victim or the victims family
As a young black American i have to say that this seems to be some sort of evil extension of Willie lynch and Jim Crow and all that other shit…( You know, the conspiracy to keep black people discouraged and feeling as if their lives/livelihood are not as important/valuable as those of a white man/woman).
I REALLY hope you are following me here. I am not claiming to be a political essayist. I’m not here to have my frustrations and opinions dissected by some stuck up academic or another. I’m just so fucking irate. Something has GOT to give.

Swami: a snake charmer; used here in reference to being a woman that men are easily aroused by.
Bonne Vie: French; meaning “good life”
Whistle-wetter: lip licker.
Pint: used here to reference a woman with a small, petit stature.
“Being born a woman is an awful tragedy. Yes, my consuming desire to mingle with road crews, sailors and soldiers, bar room regulars—to be a part of a scene, anonymous, listening, recording —all is spoiled by the fact that I am a girl, a female always in danger of assault and battery. My consuming interest in men and their lives is often misconstrued as a desire to seduce them, or as an invitation to intimacy. Yet, God, I want to talk to everybody I can as deeply as I can. I want to be able to sleep in an open field, to travel west, to walk freely at night.”
— Sylvia Plath”—
"The Declaration Of The Independence of Cyberspace"
by John Perry Barlow
Governments of the Industrial World, you weary giants of flesh and steel, I come from Cyberspace, the new home of Mind. On behalf of the future, I ask you of the past to leave us alone. You are not welcome among us. You have no sovereignty where we gather.
We have no elected government, nor are we likely to have one, so I address you with no greater authority than that with which liberty itself always speaks. I declare the global social space we are building to be naturally independent of the tyrannies you seek to impose on us. You have no moral right to rule us nor do you possess any methods of enforcement we have true reason to fear.
Governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed. You have neither solicited nor received ours. We did not invite you. You do not know us, nor do you know our world. Cyberspace does not lie within your borders. Do not think that you can build it, as though it were a public construction project. You cannot. It is an act of nature and it grows itself through our collective actions.
You have not engaged in our great and gathering conversation, nor did you create the wealth of our marketplaces. You do not know our culture, our ethics, or the unwritten codes that already provide our society more order than could be obtained by any of your impositions.
You claim there are problems among us that you need to solve. You use this claim as an excuse to invade our precincts. Many of these problems don’t exist. Where there are real conflicts, where there are wrongs, we will identify them and address them by our means. We are forming our own Social Contract . This governance will arise according to the conditions of our world, not yours. Our world is different.
Cyberspace consists of transactions, relationships, and thought itself, arrayed like a standing wave in the web of our communications. Ours is a world that is both everywhere and nowhere, but it is not where bodies live.
We are creating a world that all may enter without privilege or prejudice accorded by race, economic power, military force, or station of birth.
We are creating a world where anyone, anywhere may express his or her beliefs, no matter how singular, without fear of being coerced into silence or conformity.
Your legal concepts of property, expression, identity, movement, and context do not apply to us. They are all based on matter, and there is no matter here.
Our identities have no bodies, so, unlike you, we cannot obtain order by physical coercion. We believe that from ethics, enlightened self-interest, and the commonweal, our governance will emerge . Our identities may be distributed across many of your jurisdictions. The only law that all our constituent cultures would generally recognize is the Golden Rule. We hope we will be able to build our particular solutions on that basis. But we cannot accept the solutions you are attempting to impose.
In the United States, you have today created a law, the Telecommunications Reform Act, which repudiates your own Constitution and insults the dreams of Jefferson, Washington, Mill, Madison, DeToqueville, and Brandeis. These dreams must now be born anew in us.
You are terrified of your own children, since they are natives in a world where you will always be immigrants. Because you fear them, you entrust your bureaucracies with the parental responsibilities you are too cowardly to confront yourselves. In our world, all the sentiments and expressions of humanity, from the debasing to the angelic, are parts of a seamless whole, the global conversation of bits. We cannot separate the air that chokes from the air upon which wings beat.
In China, Germany, France, Russia, Singapore, Italy and the United States, you are trying to ward off the virus of liberty by erecting guard posts at the frontiers of Cyberspace. These may keep out the contagion for a small time, but they will not work in a world that will soon be blanketed in bit-bearing media.
Your increasingly obsolete information industries would perpetuate themselves by proposing laws, in America and elsewhere, that claim to own speech itself throughout the world. These laws would declare ideas to be another industrial product, no more noble than pig iron. In our world, whatever the human mind may create can be reproduced and distributed infinitely at no cost. The global conveyance of thought no longer requires your factories to accomplish.
These increasingly hostile and colonial measures place us in the same position as those previous lovers of freedom and self-determination who had to reject the authorities of distant, uninformed powers. We must declare our virtual selves immune to your sovereignty, even as we continue to consent to your rule over our bodies. We will spread ourselves across the Planet so that no one can arrest our thoughts.
We will create a civilization of the Mind in Cyberspace. May it be more humane and fair than the world your governments have made before.
